For the majority of my childhood, I remember myself as a reserved and highly sensitive girl. Though I am still highly sensitive by nature, I wasn’t always like that. Before secondary school, I was very social and active. That was the time I was truly authentic, free from limiting beliefs. However, as time went on, the harsh and competitive Chinese education system led me to develop many conditions of worth, resulting in a high achiever mindset based on fear of abandonment and judgement. When I moved to the UK for boarding school, I lost contact with all my friends and relatives in Asia and began my social circle from ground zero. Challenges from lack of friends, difficulty in cultural integration, and fear of abandonment accompanied by eating disorders led me to become more shy and reserved over the years, to the point that I stopped having the confidence to interact with my peers and felt more alone than ever. This lack of belonging, this feeling that I would not be accepted by anyone for who I truly am, continued on up until after my university years. This, in addition to my multiple attempts and failures to recover from an eating disorder, pushed me to a journey of self-discovery and healing. Over the years, I worked on my relationship with God, cultivating self-compassion, resolving past traumas, and overcoming unhealthy patterns of relating with full dedication and commitment. Now, having fully recovered from ED, fear of abandonment, and coming out of toxic relationship dynamics, I have gathered an abundance of knowledge and toolkits to help others find themselves.
What led me to coaching?
As someone who has diverse interests growing up, I was confused about finding a career path that aligns with my passions. I am passionate about health and wellness but at the same time, I love to cultivate my creative side with colour, styles, and design. After working in the interior design industry for many years and feeling unfulfilled in my role, I embarked on a journey to rediscover my passion from the depth of my heart. It was a pivotal moment when I discovered the world of psychology, counselling, and the powerful concept of combining coaching with image and wellness. I embraced this calling, earned my coaching credentials, and embarked on a journey of healing and transformation with clients. Witnessing profound changes in them continues to inspire me every day. It gives me the joy and fulfilment I would not trade anything for.
